Compress a PDF

A scan or a presentation too big to attach? Most of a PDF's weight is its pictures — they are recompressed, the text is left alone.

How it works

  1. 1Drop the PDF.
  2. 2Pick recommended, strong (smallest file) or light (best quality).
  3. 3Download the smaller PDF.

What you get

Text stays sharp

Only the images are recompressed; text and vector graphics are untouched and stay searchable.

Three levels

Recommended suits most documents; strong gives the smallest file for scans; light keeps photos close to the original.

More PDF tools

Merge several PDFs, turn pages into JPG or PNG, or pull out all the text — in the same studio.

Private by default

Files are encrypted in transit and at rest and deleted after the result is delivered.

Same thing over the API

One header, one multipart request with the file, then poll the job or take a webhook. The same operation you just tried in the browser.

Questions

How much smaller will it get?

It depends on what is inside: scans and photo-heavy PDFs shrink a lot; a PDF of plain text is already small and changes little.

Will the text get blurry?

No. Real text is not an image and is not recompressed. Only a scanned page — which is a picture of text — is affected, and only at the strong level noticeably.

Do I need an account?

Small files work without signing up. An account adds a daily free allowance, bulk processing and an API key.

Can I automate it?

Yes. Send the file to the API with service “docconvert” and operation “compress_pdf” with level low, medium or high, then poll the job or take a webhook.
